The peanuts in the soup are very tasty and soft. Once you taste the sweet and filling broth, you will sure be addicted to it.
That is the illustration given by Agung (26), a Magelang citizen, while he was enjoying wedang kacang (peanut
soup) in a stall located at Jl. Panjang Magelang on Friday night.
Agung, who has been a regular costumer for years, confessed that there
is no comparison for Magelang's wedang kacang.
Wedang Kacang is a mix of peanuts, palm sugar, white sugar,
and sticky rice. The peanut is originally from Borobudur land and it has
a sweet taste.
Agustin (55) runs her stall since March 1982 and she inherited it from her parents, which first opened in Purworejo.
Agustin has to boil local peanuts for 24 hours to get a soft, tasty
and red coloured beans. She also needs six kilograms of sticky rice for
the mixtures each day.
The wedang kacang is believed to be good for health. Besides its
warming sensation, the wedang also does not have any coconut cream in
the mixture, making it cholesterol free. Not only that, the stall has
its other typical soup, the wedang ronde.
Wedang ronde is a soup with peanut balls and warm ginger taste. It can be served hot or with ice. "There is also kolak (banana soup) among the variation of hot soups," she said.
