The Malang Regional Government is planning to build a dam to block
the Brantas River. The dam will be built along the Malang recreational
park up to the Splindid bird market.
"[The dam] will also be developed
for marine tourism and culinary," said Mochammad Anton, the Regent of
Malang on Thursday, May 22, 2014.
The dam will be integrated with the city's recreational park that is
home to a large variety of birds. The construction of the dam has
already been carefully planned for several years in an effort to provide
an ample supply of drinking water to Malang residents.
Anton said that he had invited investors to construct the dam. He
added that Malaysian investors have declared their readiness to invest
in the project.
Meanwhile, Nuzul Cahyo, Chief of the Malang Environmental Agency said
that further studies are needed before the dam could be built. "The
studies will involve experts and academics," he said.
