From Mount Bromo to Borobudur

Several places where film shooting took places have become particular tourism attractions that boost popularity of the tourism spots. 

In Indonesia, such places that were famous from Hollywood and local films continued to attract visitors. Below is the list of famous film shooting places in Indonesian tourism destinations:

-Mount Bromo, East Java

More than ten years ago, shooting for Indonesian movie entitled Pasir Berbisik (Whispering Sand) was done in the carpet of sands of Mount Bromo. The movie was played by Indonesian famous artist Dian Sastrowardoyo. The vast sandy plateu looked like a desert and has since been namedKawasan Pasir Berbisik (Whispering Sand Area).

-Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Belitung, East Java

These were the shooting spots of Hollywood film The Philosopher starred by Bonnie "Harry Potter" Wright and Indonesian artist Cinta Laura Kiehl. The shot took place in Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta, National Monument in Jakarta, Bromo-Semeru region in East Java, and beautiful beaches of Belitung Island.

-Mount Sarangan, West Java

Mount Sarangan has been the favorite spots to shoot local horror movies. There are many sites such as hospital, cemeteries, and jungle, are considered as haunted in this area. Despite of its thrilling popularity, many hikers still come to the mountain to conquer steeping tracks that pierce into thick forest.

-Moyo Island, West Nusa Tenggara

This island was so not popular that not all of West Nusa Tenggara residents even know the existence of Moyo island where Hollywood's Savages was filmed there. Oliver Stone, Salma Hayek, Nlake Lively, John Travolta, and Taylor Kitsch were the actors who starred the movie.

- Mount Jayawijaya, Papua

Indonesian people may still remember the beauty of Papua's landscape through the film entitledDenias: Senandung di Atas Awan (Denias: A Melody Above the Cloud). To reach the heavenly place from other place in Indonesia is very costly. However, after seeing the movie some people may start saving to book a ticket to the highest peak where eternal tropical gletser exists.

-Karangasem and Nusa Lembongan, Bali

Karangasem and Nusa Lembongan in Bali became the shooting site for Hollywood movie entitled Alex Cross which was directed by Rob Cohen. The tourism destination is also famous as surfing spot.

-Borobudur Temple, Central Java and Yogyakarta

Borobudur Temple, famous as it always, was the place where Hollywood film Java Heat shootingtook place. The movie wrapped the Indonesian and American culture in one storyline.
