Surakarta to Make Bengawan Solo More Attractive

The local government of Surakarta, Central Java, is planning to build an observation tower on the riverside of Bengawan Solo River. 

The government expect that the tower will be an attraction for the tourists who curious to see the river which is widely famous through a song made by the late Indonesian music maestro, Gesang.
 
"We have been trying to find the best spot [for the tower]," said Eny Stasni Suzanna, the Surakarta Tourism and Cultural Agency Head on Friday.

The team has decided to build the tower in Pucang Sawit region. "There is a stream curve, so the scene will be quite attractive," said Eny.

According to Eny, the observation tower is essential to attract visitors as she believes that many foreign tourists, especially from Japan and Netherland, are curious with the longest river in Java island.

"They have heard about it from the keroncong song [entitled] Bengawan Solo," Eny continued.

Surakarta Mayor F.X. Hadi Rudyatmo hoped that Bengawan Solo River can be developed to be a new tourism destination that can be enjoyed in forms of river tourism packages. Surakarta is currently also developing Pepe River for water-based tourism destination.
