The parade, which will be held along Pemuda and Pandanaran streets until Simpang Lima area, will present four elements in accordance with the theme, Light of Miracle.
“Those four elements are the sparkling of earth, the power of fire, the beauty of water and the glow of the sky,” said Semarang Culture and Tourism Agency chief Masdiyana Safitri on Wednesday.
Masdiyana said the event, which will begin at 07.00 p.m., would represent earth, fire, water and air—the elements related to the sky world. “Participants will present their works that represent those elements,” said Masdiyana.
Masdiana said the number of participants in this year’s carnival had reached around 600, comprising a mix of high school and college students. She added that the event would be more spectacular than that of last year.
She said the carnival would be more than just a throng of people marching along the street, as it would also feature stage performances and dance shows. “The dances will not be easy because the participants wear large outfits,” she said.
Semarang Culture and Tourism Agency’s art show division chief Taufan Yuristian Dalimarta said the choreography for the show would be adjusted to the clothes worn by the participants.
He added some 18 hotels in Semarang would also support the event by bringing their guests to watch the carnival. “Each hotel will send 100 guests to watch [the carnival],” said Taufan.
