The megalithic site of Mount Padang at Karya Mukti Village, Cianjur,
West Java, is considered as a combination of special interest, heritage
and ecotourism, said head of Tourism Resources and Creative Economic
Development Agency, I Gde Pitana on Sunday, May 11, 2014, in Cianjur.
Accroding to Pitana, the site that was previously studied by a Dutch
scientist NJ Krom in 1949 is suitable as special interest tourism
because of its challenging terrain, including the first terrace to be
climbed with 45 degree slope.
"On the heritage point of view, there are many things to learn from here," he said.
A number of reliefs had been found among the ruins, including stone reliefs that look like a kujang (a traditional weapon native to Sundanese people), tiger foot print and pithed stones.
"The site is also suitable for ecotourism since it is surrounded by mountain, hill, valley and river," he said.
Mount Padang is surrounded by five mountains: Karuhun, Pasir Buluh,
Ciwangun, Batu and Gede. The west side of the mount is bordering with
Cihandeleum Valley and Cipanggulaan River.
