Jakarta - The
Ternate Sultanate in North Maluku is going to hold annual Legu Gam
Festival starting from April 13 to April 26.
The traditional folk party
is held on the birthday of 79th Sultan of Ternate, Sultan Mudaffar Syah.
The Legu Gam festival will be packed with various cultural activities
such as cultural carnival, exhibition, and national seminar. There will
be also an expo to introduce the Ternate's potential in fisheries,
industry, and plantations.
The wife of Ternate Sultan, and also the Queen, Boki Ratu Nita Budhi
Susanti, said that Legu Gam festival is the oldest and also the biggest
festival in North Maluku. The festival has been routinely held in
cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.
"When the festival started, people from all corners of the island will gather in the Ternate Palace," she said.
This year, the festival is said to carry the theme of "Expedition to
Raha, Unite The Archipelago". According to Boki Ratu Nita, Ternate
reflects the miniature of Indonesia since the island has 27 tribes and
60 languages.
"The symbol of this festival is Legu dance, a royal dance which only performed in front of the Sultans," said the queen.
Ternate Fashion Street and the crowning of "Jojaru Ngogare" (the
youth ambassadors of North Maluku) are said to be featured on the
festival. As for the expedition, a tourism trip on ships to visit
kingdoms in North Maluku: Ternate, Tidore, Bacan and Jailolo will be
offered.
