A Weekend Getaway at Mount Papandayan

The Papandayan volcano in Cisurupan regency, Garut, West Java, has become a favorite adventure tourism destination for people living in the surrounding metropolitan cities. 

During the holiday, people from Bandung, Bogor, Jakarta, and other cities in Java Island are crowding the volcano track to enjoy the air.
 
"The track is not too difficult to follow, and the location is close to Jakarta," said Aziz, one of the hikers from Jakarta.

In Papandayan, people are usually hiking or trekking a pathway on stones that resulted from the volcano eruption in 2002. Visitors can hike up to the top of the mountain where they can enjoy the view of steamy crater and continue to go down to see the sulphuric crater up-close. Visitors are also allowed to camp in the Pondok Saladah camping ground.

The volcano is 2,622 meters high from the sea level and offers cool refreshing air. The volcano is about 15 km to the southwest of the town of Garut. For you who seek a different weekend escape from the city routine, trekking in the Papandayan volcano is worth trying.
